Our department has announced the appointments of Miguel A. Reina, MD, PhD, and Henry Rosenberg, MD, as Courtesy Professors effective Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2021.
Dr. Reina has been a Professor of Anesthesiology in the School of Medicine at the University CEU San Pablo since 2009. He has been leading research regarding the microanatomy of human peripheral nerves and the ultrastructure of human spinal meninges and collaborating with colleagues in our Acute Pain and Perioperative Medicine Division for the past several years, including Emeritus Professor Andre Boezaart, MD, PhD, Olga “Kik” Nin, MD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, and others.
The purpose of Dr. Reina’s appointment is continued collaboration on research focusing on micro- and high-definition ultrasound for peripheral nerves with our Acute Pain and Perioperative Medicine Division. Dr. Reina also intends to create a day-long course related to these studies and results. This course may be offered to hospitals and universities nationally as well as internationally.
Dr. Rosenberg is President of the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of United States (MHAUS) and a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Rutgers University, New Jersey Medical School.
The purpose of his appointment is to mentor faculty in our department related to the North American Malignant Hyperthermia Registry of MHAUS, which is housed in our department. The faculty members he will mentor include Nikolaus Gravenstein, MD, the Jerome H. Modell Professor of Anesthesiology and Professor of Neurosurgery and Periodontology; Patrick Tighe, MD MS, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology; and Cameron Smith, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Rosenberg will also develop new lectures for faculty, residents, and fellows, publications for MH research, and continuous development of the MHAUS registry.
