About Federico Jimenez Ruiz

My name is Federico Jimenez Ruiz, M.D., and I joined the University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology in 2023 as an assistant professor in the divisions of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine. I earned my medical degree from Universidad CES in Medellin, Colombia, and completed my anesthesiology residency at the University of Minnesota. I completed a regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine fellowship at the University of Virginia, followed by a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship here at the University of Florida.

I think anesthesiology is a fascinating specialty because it allows me to help patients and families in many different ways. Not only is our patient population quite diverse, but we also help in a variety of clinical settings such as the operating room, labor and delivery, intensive care, acute pain services, and many more. This scope of practice provides us with a one-of-a-kind perspective which allows us to apply our medical knowledge in a very unique way.

I care a lot about the health of my patients and I will do everything in my reach to provide them with the best and safest anesthetic care. I enjoy researching and writing manuscripts related to pediatric and regional anesthesiology. I also enjoy organizing and teaching regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound workshops.

Outside work I enjoy spending time with my family. I also enjoy reading and listening to almost all types of music. I really like soccer and love to travel to watch major soccer games! My wife is an outstanding woman and a great physician and mother, and I’m the proud father of an amazing, fun, and loving boy.
