Shakthi Venkatachalam, MBBS

My name is Shakthi Venkatachalam, MBBS, and I joined the University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Obstetric Anesthesia in 2025. I became an anesthesiologist because I believe anesthesia represents one of the most humane achievements in medicine. My patients’ comfort and safety are always my highest priorities. I understand that surgery and anesthesia can feel overwhelming, and I strive to provide expert care with reassurance, empathy, and compassion every step of the way. I earned my medical degree from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Coimbatore, where I also completed my internship. I then completed my anesthesiology residency at JSS Medical College and Hospital in Mysore. Following residency, I pursued a clinical fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. I subsequently completed a simulation fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I then completed fellowships in obstetric anesthesiology and in perioperative medicine and ambulatory anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

My research interests focus on Obstetric Anesthesia and Simulation. Additionally, I am deeply passionate about medical simulation education, helping train residents and fellows in a controlled environment where they can build skills, confidence, and readiness for real-world clinical scenarios.

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking traditional South Indian dishes, reading both fiction and non-fiction, and taking long walks with my Goldendoodle, Cocoa.
