About Bharathram Vasudevan

My name is Bharath Vasudevan, MBBS, MD, and I joined the Department of Anesthesiology in 2024 as an assistant professor in the Divisions of Critical Care Medicine and Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. I received my Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery at Madras Medical College and the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in Chennai, India, and my Doctor of Medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. I completed a critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Iowa, followed by an anesthesiology residency at Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Chicago, IL, and an adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.

I’ve always been curious about the functioning of the human body: how we contract illnesses and how treatments work. I decided to go into medicine to quench my thirst for knowledge and to use it to directly influence the lives of others. In medical school, I was drawn towards anesthesiology and critical care medicine because the dynamic, fast-paced settings involve a critical interplay of medical knowledge, skill, and teamwork when taking care of some of the sickest patients in our health system. Undergoing a major surgery or combating a critical illness can be one of the most stressful times in a patient’s life; as an anesthesiologist and intensivist, my goal is to help my patients and their loved ones navigate this stressful period in a safe and comfortable manner.

My clinical interests include mechanical circulatory support, applications of point-of-care ultrasound, and postoperative outcomes research.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and biking, traveling and exploring new places, spending time outdoors with my wife and daughter, and whistling classical Indian music.
