About Heather M Reed
My name is Heather Reed, M.D., and I am an associate professor in the UF Department of Anesthesiology’s Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology. I chose to specialize in cardiac anesthesiology because I enjoy being involved in complex cases and utilizing ultrasound to assist in diagnosis and management.
I earned my medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine, and I completed my anesthesiology residency here in the department where I was chief resident my final year. I then completed my cardiac anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Washington. I have a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Emory University and Bachelor of Science in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Michigan. I was previously in the department for two years as an assistant professor starting in 2016.
During my first time as a faculty member, I was the perioperative transesophageal echocardiogram director and a part of the equipment and supply committee. After this, I became an associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Central Florida and later the vice chief of anesthesiology at a hospital in Ocala. During my time in Ocala, I was a part of my hospital’s ECMO committee, structural heart team, and surgical advisory committee.
I have contributed book chapters about aortic valve surgery, anesthesia for cardiac transplantation, and temperature for cardiopulmonary bypass. I have attended numerous scientific conferences and shared posters about lung transplantation complications and transcatheter aortic valve prothesis.
