About Elvio A Mazzotta
My name is Elvio Andres Mazzotta, M.D., and I am an assistant professor in the Division of Neuroanesthesiology in the UF Department of Anesthesiology.
I decided to become a doctor because I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather, who was a doctor in a rural area. During my surgical rotation in medical school, I had the opportunity to spend the day with the anesthesiology team. This experience proved to be a pivotal moment, and from that point forward, I was certain that anesthesiology was the specialty I was destined to follow.
I earned my medical degree at the National University of Cordoba in Cordoba, Argentina. In the same city, I completed an anesthesiology residency at the Hospital Privado Universidad of Cordoba, a private hospital. After this, I went to Ohio State University where I finished a neuroanesthesia fellowship and anesthesiology residency program at the Wexner Medical Center. During this residency, I achieved the highest in-training exam score in my PGY-1 and CA-1 classes.
I have extensive experience with medical research and investigation. I have been a co-investigator for trials funded by the National Institutes of Health. In my postdoctoral training, I focused on the enteric nervous system or the “second brain.” I also have special expertise in a few areas, such as a neuroanesthesia, spinal surgery, neurointerventional procedures, brain tumors, and deep brain stimulation.
I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, and being outdoors. I am a huge fan of soccer and Formula 1 racing.
