Tom Guyton, MD
Assistant Professor Of Anesthesiology
About Tom Guyton
My name is Tom Guyton, MD, and I returned to the UF Department of Anesthesiology as an assistant professor in the Division of Multispecialty Anesthesiology in 2024. I earned my medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed my anesthesiology residency here at the University of Florida. After completing an NIH Training Grant at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, I spent several years as an assistant professor of anesthesiology here at UF before joining a private practice in Memphis, Tennessee, where I worked for 26 years.
I come from a large medical family, and watching my older siblings enjoy their work played a large role in my own decision to pursue medicine. During my surgical clerkship in medical school, I saw how much the anesthesiologists seemed to love the field and this encouraged me to become one myself. My clinical interests include transesophageal echocardiography, cardiovascular anesthesia, anesthesia equipment, flow processes, and automated anesthesia record systems. I am a strong supporter of helping my patients direct their own medical care, whether that means making difficult end-of-life decisions, refusing blood products, or otherwise making informed decisions about their treatment.
In my free time, I enjoy woodworking and any type of watersport.
