About Chris R Giordano

My name is Christopher Giordano, MD, and I joined the Department of Anesthesiology as an assistant professor in 2009. I received my medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, and completed an internship in internal medicine at Orlando Regional Medical Center. I completed my anesthesiology residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and liver transplantation fellowship here at the University of Florida.

I’m now a professor of anesthesiology, the chief of the Division of Liver & Transplant Anesthesiology, and the director of the Anesthesiology/Critical Care Clerkship. I work closely with the transplant committee to direct safe, high-quality care for all liver transplant candidates. As a liver transplant specialist, I’ve also specialized in sub-specialties of transfusion medicine, trauma, and echocardiography.

I love teaching, and the ability to focus much of my time on education is one of the main reasons I came to UF. As director of the Anesthesiology/Critical Care Clerkship, I’ve expanded its scope and developed a classroom model which emphasizes hands-on simulations rather than lectures. This course has twice received the College of Medicine’s Golden Apple Award for best-rated medical school clerkship.

I’ve received a number of other awards for my educational contributes, including the College of Medicine’s Exemplary Teacher Award every year from 2013-2021 and the 2019 Distinguished Educator in Anesthesiology Award from the American Society of Anesthesiologists. In 2019, I was also proud to become the first member of the Department of Anesthesiology to receive the Hippocratic Award for Excellence from the UF College of Medicine for my work as a physician and educator.
