Jonathan N Cates, M.D.

Jonathan “Nicky” Cates, M.D., joined us in 2021 as an assistant professor in the Division of Critical Care Medicine after completing his Critical Care Medicine fellowship with us.

Cates earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina and completed his residency in anesthesiology in our department. Prior to his anesthesiology residency, he completed two years of general surgery residency at the University of Florida.

He is a member of several anesthesiology and medical organizations, and he has made several contributions to presentations and case reports. He has participated in research on intramuscular promethazine for the treatment of intrathecal morphine-induced pruritus and on point-of-care gastric ultrasound in the intensive care unit.

In his free time, he enjoys soccer, bowling, golfing, road biking, hiking, cooking, and traveling. He also likes to work with his hands on projects such as woodworking and refinishing furniture.
