The Department of Anesthesiology, rated in the top 13th percentile of Anesthesiology programs in the country, is part of UF’s College of Medicine and UF Health at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

UF Health Shands, an 830-bed hospital, is the major teaching hospital at UF and operates a state-designated Level I Trauma Center.

Our faculty and residents also practice at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center, which holds over 480 beds.

We provide anesthesia services at the four-operating room Children’s Surgical Center and the eight-operating room Florida Surgical Center for adult outpatient surgery.

Combined, we care for over 80,448 patients per year in our operating rooms and hundreds more in the various intensive care units we serve.

Expansion of our health center is taking place; the Health Heart & Vascular Hospital will focus solely on patients with heart and vascular needs, while the UF Health Neuromedicine Hospital will focus on patients with neurological needs. The hospitals are expected to open in 2018.
