Heather Reed

Please help us welcome Heather Reed, M.D., to the University of Florida (UF) Department of Anesthesiology. She joins us as an associate professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology.

Reed was previously in our department for two years as an assistant professor starting in 2016. During this time, she was the perioperative transesophageal echocardiogram director and a part of our equipment and supply committee. After this, she became an associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Central Florida and later the vice chief of anesthesiology at a hospital in Ocala. During her time in Ocala, she was a part of her hospital’s ECMO committee, structural heart team, and surgical advisory committee.

Reed earned her medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine and she completed her anesthesiology residency here in our department. She completed her cardiac anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Washington. She has a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Emory University and Bachelor of Science in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Michigan.

Reed has made research contributions alongside many of our faculty members. At the 2017 International Anesthesia Research Society annual meeting, she and three of our faculty members shared their research on proinflammatory profiles of whole blood acquired from acute normovolemic hemodilution.
