This March, the University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology hosted the Spring Anesthesia Ski Summit in Vail, Colorado. This was the third consecutive year the summit returned to Antlers Resort, after a few years of coordinating the event in Park City, Utah. The event ran from Monday to Friday, allowing attendees to balance concentrated didactic sessions with ample time on the slopes.

A total of 52 participants including anesthesiologists, surgeons, CRNAs/CAAs, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants attended the summit. Sessions ran in the mornings and evenings to leave midday free for skiing. Lecture topics ranged from lung transplantation and patient blood management to physician burnout and conflict management to anesthesia in search and rescue and navigating natural disasters.
Attendees praised the intimate setting, which encouraged more in‑depth discussion and feedback. With the summit timed to coincide with many spring breaks including that of UF and Alachua County Public Schools, many participants brought their families with them to Vail. A reception on Tuesday provided an opportunity for participants and their families to mingle.
With another successful summit concluded, the department is looking into planning for next year’s event. Check back on our website and social media for updates and subscribe to the CME’s email list (check the “Spring Anesthesia Ski Summit” box) to be the first to hear the latest info on the event!
