Department of Anesthesiology stands tall at the College’s Celebration of Research

Feature of the department at the COM CoR 2026

The University of Florida (UF) Department of Anesthesiology was well represented at the 16th annual UF College of Medicine (COM) Celebration of Research with 30 posters. The two-day celebration culminated at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on February 10 with a poster session.

The event took place in three parts. The awards ceremony was held on February 9, while the following day began with the research symposium and keynote address and ended with the poster session and reception.

The poster session gave UF College of Medicine faculty, residents, and students the chance to showcase their cutting-edge biomedical research to the UF COM community. The event not only encouraged the dissemination of knowledge but also paved the way for future research collaborations.

Over 20 of our faculty members and residents contributed to the event with their posters, covering topics from the presence of microplastics in cardiopulmonary bypass circuits to chest and urine drainage management.

Iaroslav Tsymbaliuk at the COM CoR 2026

Iaroslav Tsymbaliuk, M.D., Ph.D., an anesthesiology intern, was a strong presence at the event, sharing his research about nitric oxide use in sweep gas. His poster discussed a patient case requiring ECMO, after which the oxygenator’s internal structure was evaluated and lacked thrombi or fibrin-dense clot deposition. Tsymabliuk highlighted that NO-enriched sweep gas is feasible, cost effective, and preserves oxygenator structure.

Simulators were also showcased, including several from the Center for Safety, Simulation & Advanced Learning Technologies (CSSALT). Samsun Lampotang, Ph.D., director of CSSALT, and his team brought out their new fluoroscopy simulation, which uses a mobile C-arm.

Rene Przkora at the COM CoR 2026

Rene Przkora, M.D., Ph.D., FASA, professor of anesthesiology and associate chair for research, attended the event and acted as a judge. “I am delighted to see the breadth and depth of research showcased at the UF College of Medicine Celebration of Research,” he remarked. “It is truly heartening to witness the collaborative spirit that permeates our college, and I want to commend our anesthesiology department for the exceptional turnout and compelling poster presentations that have added such dynamism to the event.”

Congratulations to all of our faculty, residents, fellows, and staff who contributed their research and represented the Department of Anesthesiology at this year’s UF COM Celebration of Research.
