
We are pleased to announce that Rene Przkora, M.D., Ph.D., professor of anesthesiology, chief of the Division of Pain Medicine, and program director for our Multidisciplinary Pain Medicine Fellowship, has been named associate chair of research for the UF Department of Anesthesiology.
Przkora takes on this role after acting as our interim associate chair of research for the past year. He promotes a collaborative research culture, seeking stronger ties with other departments in the UF College of Medicine and leading academic partners across the country. His track record in academic leadership, coupled with his mentorship of countless residents and fellows on projects, scholarship, and conference presentations, underscores his readiness for the role.
Throughout his career, Przkora has balanced clinical service, teaching, and research and innovation. His research interests focus on perioperative optimization, pain management, educational innovation, and technology integration. His work has yielded more than 75 peer‑reviewed articles and several book chapters, while he has secured numerous local and national grant awards, including funding from the National Institutes of Health.
Przkora joined UF in 2014 as an associate professor of anesthesiology and fellowship director of the pain medicine program. He became chief of the Division of Pain Medicine in 2016 and was promoted to full professor in 2019. Before he joined us, he served as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and the assistant director of the pain medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
