Walter Johnson, M.D., leads pain medicine services in Ocala

Please help us welcome Walter Johnson, M.D., who joined the University of Florida (UF) Department of Anesthesiology and UF Health as a pain medicine specialist at the Ocala Neighborhood Hospital (ONH). As the medical director of pain medicine services at ONH, he plays a key role in expanding advanced pain management options for patients in the North Central Florida region.

Johnson earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Kentucky, where he was a chief resident. He then finished an interventional pain fellowship at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. He also has a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of South Carolina.

Johnson chose to pursue pain management because he saw how much chronic pain can profoundly affect every aspect of a person’s life. Seeing how minimally invasive treatments can significantly restore function and improve quality of life motivated him to specialize in this field and help patients regain control of their lives. He takes time to get to know his patients and helps develop personalized treatment plans that align with their goals. In addition, he has special expertise in neuromodulation, vertebral compression fractures, spinal stenosis, spondylosis, sacroiliitis, post-laminectomy syndrome, and piriformis syndrome.

In his spare time, Johnson enjoys exercising and reading. He also likes to explore new restaurants and do outdoor activities with his wife.
