Shakthi Jayanthy Venkatachalam, MBBS, joins the department

Shakthi Venkatachalam

Please join us in welcoming Shakthi Jayanthy Venkatachalam, MBBS, to the UF Department of Anesthesiology as an assistant professor in the Division of Obstetric Anesthesia.

Venkatachalam earned her medical degree at the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Coimbatore, India, where she also did her internship, and completed her anesthesiology residency at the JSS Medical College and Hospital in Mysore, India. She went to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom, for a clinical fellowship followed by a simulation fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. At Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, she completed an obstetric anesthesiology fellowship and recently finished up a perioperative medicine and ambulatory anesthesia fellowship as well as serving as a simulation lead prior to joining our department.

Venkatachalam strives to ensure the safety and comfort of her patients, especially those in childbirth, providing reassurance and compassion every step of the way. With a focus on obstetrics, she is currently researching the risk of neonatal hypoglycemia and bradycardia in infants of women receiving β blockers. She has an interest in medical simulation education and enjoys training residents and fellows to help them grow their skills and confidence.

In her free time, Venkatachalam loves cooking traditional South Indian dishes and reading fiction. She also likes to take long walks with her Goldendoodle, Coco.
