Jose Estrada

Jose Estrada, M.D.

Jose Estrada, M.D., earned his medical degree at CES University School of Medicine in Colombia, where he also completed his anesthesiology residency. During medical school, Estrada finished a clerkship in internal medicine and critical care with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Estrada has extensive experience with teaching students and residents. As a resident, he taught medical students about the principles of anesthesiology. After residency, he remained at CES as an instructor and staff anesthesiologist, specializing in anesthesia and pain medicine. In 2023, he was recognized by the University of Antioquia in Colombia with an honorable mention for excellence in teaching.

Throughout his publications, Estrada has written about hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and the Whipple procedure.


Meena Kanhai

Meena Kanhai, M.D.

Meena Kanhai, M.D., received her medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. She recently finished her anesthesiology residency here at the University of Florida (UF) Department of Anesthesiology. She also has a Bachelor of Science in biology from UF.

During residency, Kanhai was on the recruitment and social media committees. As a recruitment member, she organized events and open houses. She also worked on recruitment strategies for social media. For research, she reported on a case involving posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. This year, she was recognized by the department for outstanding achievement in several divisions, such as acute pain medicine and pediatric anesthesiology.

In her spare time, Kanhai enjoys indoor cycling and vinyasa yoga.


Alisha Shah

Alisha Shah, M.D.

Alisha Shah, M.D., acquired her medical degree at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine. She recently completed her anesthesiology residency here at the UF Department of Anesthesiology. She also has a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the University of Missouri.

During her residency, Shah was a paired period leader, where she helped develop curriculum for interns and mentored them. She was also a member of the social media committee, where she promoted the department’s social media accounts and encouraged resident engagement. During this year’s graduation, she received a number of awards from the department, such as the chair’s award for Best Resident and the Michael E. Mahla Exceptional Resident of the Year award.

In her free time, Shah likes to foster pets and travel.

Alessandra Costello

Alessandra Costello-Serrano, M.D.

Alessandra Costello-Serrano, M.D., earned her medical degree at the Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. She finished her anesthesia and pain management residency at the University of Texas Southwestern. Before this, she completed a transitional year at the Kendall Regional Medical Center in Florida. She has a Bachelor of Science in biology from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

During medical school, Costello-Serrano worked with the Southern Anesthesia Associates, where she performed physical examinations and airway assessments. She also joined her school’s health task force that screened patients for COVID-19 and conducted mental health assessments.

As a resident, Costello-Serrano researched and reported on various topics, such as regional anesthesia techniques for total knee replacement and nerve blocks.


Jonathan West

Jonathan West, MBBS, M.S.

Jonathan West, MBBS, received his medical degree at the University of Limerick in Ireland. He completed his anesthesiology and perioperative medicine residency at the Western University Schulich School of Medicine in Canada. He has a Master of Science in chemistry from McMaster University in Canada. He has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

During his residency, West taught airway boot camp workshops to incoming residents. In his research, he sought the best pain management for gynecological and oncological surgery.

In his spare time, West plays the guitar and alto saxophone.
