Tony Boateng

Anthony Boateng, M.D.

Anthony Boateng, M.D., earned his medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He recently graduated from the residency program here at the University of Florida (UF) Department of Anesthesiology. Before he came here for anesthesiology residency, he was a preliminary surgery resident at the University of Illinois Chicago. Additionally, he has a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Berea College in Kentucky.

During his residency, Boateng was a part of the department’s education and resident recruitment committees, where he contributed efforts to recruiting prospective residents and helped develop educational curriculum. This year he was inducted into the Chapman Society, which is the UF Gold Humanism Honor Society chapter that recognizes physicians for promoting humanism in medicine and being compassionate in their clinical services. In addition, he works with medical and undergraduate students in the Medi-Gators Mentorship Program.


Kevin Clark

Kevin Clark, M.D., M.S.

Kevin Clark, M.D., M.S., received his medical degree at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in West Virginia. He recently graduated from the residency program here at the UF Department of Anesthesiology. He also has a Master of Science in biomedical science from Marshall University and a Bachelor of Science in biology from West Virginia University.

During medical school, Clark was vice president of the Anesthesiology Interest Group and a peer mentor in its learning community. For the 2019-2020 academic year, he was the recipient of the school’s scholarship campaign endowment. At Marshall University, Clark volunteered with its medical outreach program, which was a student-led mobile health clinic that provided free medical care in the community.

In his free time, Clark devotes his attention to a handful interests, such as astronomy, basketball, computers, and football.


Gabriel Barrera

Gabriel Garcia Barrera, M.D.

Gabriel Garcia Barrera, M.D., acquired his medical degree from the Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He recently finished his anesthesiology residency at Cleveland Clinic Florida. He also has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from FIU, where he was a part of its Honors College.

During medical school, Garcia received the Professional and Graduate Degree Excellence Scholarship in 2020. In the same year, his abstract was named one of the best at the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting. At the meeting, his team shared information about using central line placement in a patient with cardiac anomalies. Currently, he is working on a quality improvement project, which seeks to improve compliance with appropriate heparin-induced thrombocytopenia testing in surgical patients.


Rachel Hanke

Rachel Hanke, M.D.

Rachel Hanke, M.D., earned her medical degree at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. She recently completed her anesthesiology residency at The University of Texas Health. Before her residency, she was an anesthesia research fellow for the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Minnesota. Additionally, she has an Honors Bachelor of Science in comparative physiology, with high distinction, from the University of Toronto.

During her residency, Hanke joined a perioperative crisis response team that provided stress-reducing tips and community resources to people facing adverse perioperative events. She also has a passion for research and was a co-investigator for cases of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, FL.

In her spare time, Hanke plays volleyball and pickleball. She also excels at classical piano and has achieved level seven practical and level four theory by Conservatory Canada standards.


Alex Horowitz

Alex Horowitz, D.O., M.S.

Alex Horowitz, D.O., M.S., received his medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Florida. He completed a transitional year at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, and he recently graduated from the residency program here at the UF Department of Anesthesiology. Additionally, he has a Master of Science in medical sciences from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in food science and human nutrition from UF.

During his residency, Horowitz was involved in the department’s education and resident recruitment committees, where he acted as a class representative. In his CA-1 year, he was selected to serve as one of eight Florida resident delegates to attend the 2022 American Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting. He also took the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) BASIC Examination and scored in the top 10 percent.

Along with other authors, Horowitz has produced a number of journal articles that have been published including research on the variables that affect sensorimotor rhythm brain-computer interface performance.


Daniel Weigle

Daniel Weigle, D.O.

Daniel Weigle, D.O., acquired his medical degree from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. He recently finished his anesthesiology residency with the UF Health Jacksonville program. From Florida State University, he has a Bachelor of Science in nursing and a Bachelor of Science in biology.

During his residency, Weigle took part in the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Multidisciplinary Critical Care Committee. He also scored in the top 10 percent on the ABA BASIC Examination. During medical school, he worked as a registered nurse at HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital and was the president of their Anesthesiology Interest Group.
