Faculty, residents, fellows, and staff from the University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology shared knowledge and research at the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists (FSA) Annual Meeting held June 6-8, 2025, at The Breakers in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Department members presented 14 posters and led 11 sessions or workshops at the event, which surpasses the numbers from last year’s meeting.
The FSA Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of anesthesiologists in the Southeastern United States.

The meeting’s highlights included a number of sessions delivered or moderated by our faculty: Lauren Berkow, M.D., Chris Giordano, M.D., Barys Ihnatsenka, M.D., Brandon Lopez, M.D., Yong G. Peng, M.D., Julie-Ann Thompson, M.D., and Adam Wendling, M.D.
Drs. Lopez, Thompson, and Wendling were the speakers for the first session of the event, which involved a committee panel that discussed different methods of initiating neuraxial labor analgesia. The panel not only talked about those methods but also considered their advantages and disadvantages.

Third-year resident Kyle Chan, M.D., and Asad Bashir, M.D., assistant professor of anesthesiology, contributed a poster that focused on ascorbic acid and its potential benefits. They concluded that ascorbic acid could serve as a potential option to manage hypotension caused by refractory vasoplegia after liver reperfusion.
Congratulations to all our amazing department members who contributed to this event and represented our department!
The next FSA Annual Meeting will be decided and announced later on by the association. The call for abstracts for the next annual meeting will be opening in winter 2025.
