Tim Martin, M.D., appointed item writer for HALM exam

Timothy W. Martin, MD, MBA

Timothy W. Martin, M.D., MBA, FASA, FAAP, professor of anesthesiology and pediatrics and associate chair for education, has been appointed by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) as an item writer for the Health Care Administration, Leadership, and Management (HALM) examination. As an item writer, Martin will help the ABEM in creating questions for the HALM exam.

The HALM subspecialty exam is available to physicians from several specialties including anesthesiology and was first administered in November of 2024. Martin was among the first cohort of physicians to achieve this additional subspecialty certification. The American Board of Anesthesiology is also one of the sponsoring boards.  

The HALM Advisory Committee trains its writers to craft high-quality questions that are reliable, valid, and suitable for the assessment. Martin’s appointment runs through December 31, 2028.
