Sustainability and patient blood management: UF’s free CME courses elevate healthcare

The University of Florida Quality and Patient Safety initiative, or QPSi, has launched new continuing medical education (CME) courses, designed to empower healthcare professionals, educators, and trainees with innovative resources to enhance patient safety and quality of care.

Professors of anesthesiology Lauren Berkow, M.D., and Thorsten Haas, M.D., are instructors for two of these courses. Berkow’s course, Sustainability in Healthcare, explores the impact of healthcare on the environment, emphasizing sustainability in hospitals. Haas’ course, Best Practices in Patient Blood Management: Strategies for Optimal Patient Care, focuses on how patient blood management can enhance patient outcomes, minimize complications, and reduce healthcare costs by optimizing a patient’s own blood. Haas codirects this course with Marc Zumberg, M.D., professor of hematology and oncology.

These engaging, learner-focused courses are now available to all health professionals — completely free of charge.
