Modell-Shah Lecture focuses on psychedelics in the anesthetized state

The University of Florida Department of Anesthesiology was honored to welcome George A. Mashour, M.D., Ph.D., professor of anesthesiology and pharmacology at the University of Michigan, as speaker at the 2025 Jerome H. Modell, M.D., – Dinesh O. Shah, Ph.D., Annual Lecture in Anesthesiology.

Mashour’s fascinating talk, titled “Psychedelic Reversal of the Anesthetized State,” was well attended by faculty, staff, and students, including emeritus professors Dinesh O. Shah, Ph.D., who funds the Modell-Shah lecture series, and Shirley Graves, M.D., widow of Jerome H. Modell, M.D., D.Sc. (Hon.).

Mashour was the founding director of the Center for Consciousness Science at the University of Michigan and more recently founded the Michigan Psychedelic Center, which he currently directs. He is senior associate dean for faculty at the University of Michigan Medical School and previously served as chair of anesthesiology and associate dean for clinical and translational research.
