Three new faculty join the department

We’re excited to welcome three new faculty to the Department of Anesthesiology, all of whom joined us last week as assistant professors. Erika Taco Vasquez, M.D., joins us in the Division of Acute Pain Medicine, Julie-Ann Thompson, M.D., joins us in the Division of Obstetric Anesthesia, and Bharath Vasudevan, MBBS, M.D., joins us in the Divisions of Critical Care Medicine and Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. Read on to learn a bit about each of these accomplished physicians.


Erika Taco Vasquez, MD

Dr. Taco Vasquez received her medical degree at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador School of Medicine in Ecuador. She was a clinical research fellow in pain management at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and then completed her anesthesiology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. She was most recently a regional anesthesiology fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Outside of work, Dr. Taco Vasquez enjoys all kinds of sports, including running, biking, and yoga. She also enjoys ballet and salsa dancing.


Bharatham Vasudevan, MBBS, MD

Dr. Vasudevan received his Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery at Madras Medical College and The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in Chennai, India, and his Doctor of Medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He then completed a critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Iowa, followed by an anesthesiology residency at Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Chicago, IL, and an adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. In his free time, Dr. Vasudevan enjoys hiking and biking, traveling and exploring new places, spending time outdoors with his wife and daughter, and whistling classical Indian music.


Julie-Ann Thompson, MD

Dr. Thompson earned her medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. She then completed an anesthesiology residency and obstetric anesthesiology fellowship at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, LA. Before going to medical school, Dr. Thompson worked as a research assistant at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and then at the University of South Florida School of Medicine. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, exploring, swimming, and spending time with her family.
