The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) has awarded a five-year, $3,692,175 grant to the University of Florida College of Dentistry and the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. This funding aims to establish an academic multidisciplinary practice-based research network within and between the two dental schools.
Cyndi Garvan, Ph.D., statistician and professor of anesthesiology with the UF Department of Anesthesiology, is on the research team led by co-principal investigators Daniel W. McNeil, Ph.D., chair of the UF Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science, and David W. Paquette, D.M.D., M.P.H., D.M.Sc., professor and chair of the ECU Department of Surgical Sciences.
Under the project name Development of Opportunities for Research (DOOR) in Dental Schools: Future Academic Interdisciplinary Workforce and Collaborators for the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network, the two institutions will undertake this comprehensive initiative from 2023 to 2028. The program aims to develop and test an integrated, multi-level, and interdisciplinary approach, focusing on clinical research skills, team-based science, mentoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The project will encompass two clinical research studies involving dental patients.
Congratulations, Dr. Garvan!
