The American Statistical Association (ASA) has elected Terrie Vasilopoulos, Ph.D., associate professor of anesthesiology and orthopaedic surgery & sports medicine, as chair-elect of its Statistical Consulting Section. She will serve as chair-elect in 2024, chair in 2025, and past chair in 2026.
Vasilopoulos, who has been a member of the ASA since 2016, plans to address a wide range of initiatives in her new role. Her initiatives include establishing resources and infrastructure to assist consulting statisticians with promotion and career advancement, promoting statistical consulting as an independent field, and expanding support for consulting statisticians in all fields.
“We want to develop best practices and make sure there are freely available trainings and workshops for the unique skills necessary to be a statistical consultant,” she said. “One challenge is making sure our initiatives aren’t focused solely on academics, but are applicable to consultants in all sectors.”
Congratulations, Dr. Vasilopoulos!
