Congratulations to Katie Cairnes, assistant director of perioperative analytics, and Amy Gunnett, clinical research manager, for being selected as the winners of the seventh annual Rebecca Y. Lovely Outstanding Service Award!
Amy and Katie were nominated by other members of their department for this award, which recognizes exemplary performance, dedication, and integrity. Below are some of the highlights from their nominations.
“Katie is an excellent team player and treats everyone with respect. She is not afraid to tackle new tasks and always brings integrity and maximum effort to the job. She consistently strives to develop our reporting capabilities, allowing us to turn data into actionable information. She graciously took on additional responsibilities over the past year and did an outstanding job bringing stability and leadership to the CRNA & CAA group.”
“Amy is a beacon of knowledge and support, making her a formidable and invaluable collaborator for both internal and external research projects. She has great communication skills with faculty, trainees, and patients. She is always willing to provide guidance to anyone and everyone, ensuring each task is performed at the highest level. She takes the time to listen and understand complex research endeavors which supports and nurtures the department’s mission. She provides a patient, listening ear and follows up on every conversation we have to ensure collaboration.”
Amy and Katie were selected from a crowded field of 16 nominees, all of whom join them in their consistently demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of the Department of Anesthesiology, the College of Medicine, and UF Health.
The award was established when Rebecca Lovely retired in March 2016 after more than 33 years of service to our department. The winners were announced during a celebratory staff luncheon on Wednesday, April 26 as the highlight event of a weeklong celebration of administrative professionals by the Department of Anesthesiology

Tammy Bleeker
“Tammy Bleeker consistently strives to innovate and drive our educational mission forward. She is thoughtful, positive, resourceful and dedicated to all around her. Since she started in her role, she has implemented a plethora of initiatives which aim to improve the education of our learners. She also makes significant contributions to other departmental initiatives that impact almost all members of our department. Tammy is fearless when faced with challenges and consistently demonstrates a “can-do” attitude. Her knowledge, skills and dedication can’t be overstated and she is an incredible resource for residents.”
Sarah Boyd
“Sarah has consistently exceeded expectations in her role and is always available to assist those who experience a cornucopia of financial concerns or issues. She is a true expert in this regard and, with the transition to UF GO, she is unwavering and up for any challenge presented to her. She performs extraordinarily well and is a joy to work with. Sara is kind, thoughtful and meticulous in her work and consistently demonstrates her dedication to the department and her colleagues.”
Christina Hendricks
“Christina is knowledgeable, courteous, timely, and effective. She’s able to balance the delivery of constructive feedback with giving the room to implement it – an essential skill for effective managers. Christina does a great job making me feel that my expertise is appreciated and useful. She’s consistently supportive and positive. It’s been a real pleasure joining the pleasant and professional environment that Christina fosters – both with C&P but also with the research staff that shares our office.”
Regina Knudsen
“Regina performs her responsibilities as a research coordinator at an extraordinarily high level. She consistently provides a lending hand to those in need and delivers commendable care to research participants. Her significant contributions elevate the department’s research enterprise formidably. She does this while demonstrating impeccable communication skills and fostering an environment that is conducive to success.”
Jessica Lee
“Jessica consistently and substantially exceeds expectations. She is always available to lend a hand, whether a monsoon has affected your office to simply moving old teaching and simulation manikins that may or may not be haunted. She is usually the first one to stand up and get the job done in a timely and efficient fashion. She is the central financial hub and is critical to the intake and processing of complex financial documents from all over the department.”
Antoinette Noel
“Antoinette has been a wonderful addition to both the department and the Clinical Administrative Office. She has an excellent rapport with the faculty and other members of the department, and she works well with everybody she comes into contact with. Her commitment to the department and university is admirable. Antoinette is always willing to help out with additional duties with a positive and helpful attitude, and continuously works to streamline processes to ensure the clinical schedules run as smoothly as possible. She is extremely helpful to all who need her help.”
Martin Noguera
“Martin is a true joy to all he comes in contact with. He continuously volunteers to help others whenever possible and is integral for multiple departmental initiatives. He is thoughtful, kind, humble and a true content matter expert. He consistently offers valuable insight to faculty and staff, and goes out of his way to ensure that others feel heard, appreciated and welcome.”
Martin was also given a “cheerleader award” for sending the most customer service recognitions to his peers. Congratulations, Martin!
Bryan Penberthy
“Bryan’s addition to the Communications & Publishing office has been remarkable, and he has been a valuable asset to the department as a whole. His genuine passion for assisting faculty members in getting their work published is evident in his work. Bryan consistently communicates with faculty members in a respectful and optimistic manner, and he goes above and beyond to ensure that their papers look their very best when submitted to publishers. Despite being with us for only six months, Bryan has already made a significant impact.”
Vera Rehberg
“Vera is utterly selfless when it comes to her work. She has a laser focus on what is important to the department and makes significant contributions to drive its missions forward in any way that she can. She has a consistently positive attitude even when things are hectic, and continues to be calm even in hectic times. With a beaming smile and the benefit of the Department in mind, Vera is a content matter expert and a go-to resource even for questions that aren’t part of her day-to-day. She has the ability to bring individuals together for the greater good of our organization, and it is truly a pleasure working with her.”
Amanda Slater
“Amanda consistently and substantially exceeds expectations in her position as research coordinator. She is very dependable and patient when it comes to the enrollment of human subjects in complex and demanding sponsored clinical trials. She is always available to lend a helping hand, no matter how daunting the task. Her impeccable communication skills are apparent in the research subject recruitment for many complex clinical trials as well as her being in demand for collaboration with faculty and staff on a wealth of projects.”
Lisa Stanley
“Lisa consistently and substantially demonstrates an ability and willingness to work positively, respectfully and effectively with others. She demonstrates the ability to foster collaboration, communication and cooperation among colleagues and members of the campus community. She has been an absolute joy to work with ever since she joined the department. She is eager to learn and help out in whatever way she can to support the pain clinic and our faculty! She has been a welcome addition to the team and is always a joy to work with!”
Ricky Snyder
“A week does not go by in which Ricky hasn’t worked long hours to ensure the mission of the Anesthesia Education Office and the department are met. She embodies our admin team’s core values of teamwork, accountability, integrity, effective communication, and innovation & change. She takes a leadership role in training all new AEO team members and serves as a point of advice and encouragement to keep them on target. Ricky has never shied away from any task that needs to be done or unexpected challenge that needs to be tackled. She takes great pride in her work and is a pillar of dependability and excellence in AEO.”
Kerry Stroh
“Kerry consistently goes above and beyond what is asked of her, and always does it with an enthusiastic attitude. She often anticipates how to make things easier in the future. She is professional, optimistic and prompt. She offers to take on responsibilities not assigned to her to improve the process of getting projects done. She is always pleasant, professional, and I’ve never had to ask her more than once for anything; she takes care of all requests promptly and is proactive in offering to help with administrative tasks. She has truly exceeded expectations EVERY time I’ve asked her for help.”
Anna Woods
“Anna exudes teamwork in everything she does. Her positive attitude and hard work have not only helped her teammates but also the department. She has helped foster collaboration between different departments so research initiatives work seamlessly. She’s a hard worker and has a huge heart that serves her well as both a nurse and teammate. Her accountability and effective communication have made countless projects successful. Anna puts everything she has into everything she does, and the department is lucky to have her.”
