We are proud to announce that fourth-year resident Shahrukh Bengali, M.D., was honored with the 2022 Outstanding Resident Educator Award on March 14 at the Celebration of Excellence in Medical Education reception.
“I am truly honored to have received this award and am thankful to my own teachers over the years who have served as role models and educators,” said Dr. Bengali.
This award is presented by the University of Florida’s Society of Teaching Scholars to one individual from each department. The recipient of this honor has been selected by faculty in recognition of a resident who demonstrates consistent excellence in teaching other residents and medical students.
Dr. Bengali, who is one of this year’s chief residents, said the operating room is an intimidating learning environment and that it can be very normal for medical students and junior residents to feel like a stranger there. “The anxiety associated with all of this may even be enough to alter career goals and aspirations,” he said. “Helping someone navigate this and encouraging their medical education can really go a long way in helping future physicians and their future patients.”
Congratulations, Dr. Bengali!
