Welcome 2021 Acute & Perioperative Pain Medicine Fellows!

Six anesthesiologists began their Acute and Perioperative Pain Medicine Fellowship with us this summer. Please help us welcome them to the team!

Kirk Fowler

W. Kirk Fowler, MD

Dr. Fowler earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Florida. He has served as a simulation lab instructor and a member of the Social Committee and Wellness Committee during his residency here. He has also been involved in several research projects, including coauthoring a book chapter on bronchoscopic anatomy. In his free time, Dr. Fowler enjoys fishing, diving, and spending time with his family.


Steffin Golden

Steffin B. Golden, MD

Dr. Golden earned his medical degree at Florida State University College of Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Florida. He has been involved in numerous volunteer activities, including with the Council on Aging of West Florida and Autism Pensacola. He has also given several presentations on his research, including at IARS in 2019 on persistent delirium in the trauma ICU.


Alberto Hernandez, MD

Alberto Hernandez, MD

Dr. Hernandez earned his medical degree at the Universidad de Monterrey in Mexico and completed his anesthesiology residency at Hospital de Petroleos Mexicanos and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Illinois. He has participated in research on difficult airway predictive factors and supraclavicular block in left heart catheterization, and he has given numerous presentations and participated in volunteer work, including with cleft lip palate surgeries for children. His interests include nerve stimulator and ultrasound regional anesthesia and pharmacologic and invasive intervention in chronic pain management.


Julie Holroyd

Julie Holroyd, MD

Dr. Holroyd earned her medical degree at the University of Florida and completed her anesthesiology residency here as well. She has participated in several research projects, including on the FAST examination, and has contributed to several published articles. She has also volunteered on mission trips and with animal rescue groups. In her free time, Dr. Holroyd enjoys running, hiking, attending theater shows, gymnastics meets, and baseball games.


Anastasia Jones

Anastasia Jones, MD

Dr. Jones earned her medical degree at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Florida. Dr. Jones has been involved in several research activities, including at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, and she has numerous publications and presentations. She is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, and intermediate Spanish, and in her free time she enjoys kayaking, running, soccer, painting, playing violin, and photography.


Lauren Smajdor

Lauren Smajdor, MD

Dr. Smajdor earned her medical degree University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her anesthesiology residency here as well. She has participated in research on the storage of red blood cells, given several presentations, and published a book chapter. She has also served as a volunteer guitarist. In her free time, she enjoys tennis, running, fishing, snow-skiing, surfing, cooking, traveling, and guitar.
