At the first in-person celebration in over a year, the residents of our Class of 2021 were recognized for their achievements and hard work over the past four years. The ceremony at Touchdown Terrace in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium marked a return to normalcy as UF Health’s successful vaccine campaign has reduced Covid-19 cases in Gainesville.
Emotions were high as residents and their families, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate for the first time in many months. One of the outgoing chief residents, Jayme Looper, M.D., spoke about making it through a very difficult year.
“Thank you to all of our graduating class. That’s what made the job so easy for Shauna, Dan, and myself in an unbelievable Covid year,” she said. “Ya’ll stepped up and were amazing and showed all of our younger residents how to be such great leaders and make it through the most difficult time we’ve ever seen.”
