Dr. Tighe is coeditor of new edition of military anesthesia and analgesia handbook

Doctor Tighe's books

Congratulations to Associate Professor Patrick Tighe, MD, MS, who is a coeditor of the new Second Edition of the Military Advanced Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia Handbook published Oct. 9 by Oxford University Press.

The thoroughly revised and updated second edition contains illustrated, step-by-step guidance for managing acute pain through various regional anesthesia nerve blocks in both civilian and military clinical settings.

The opening chapters review equipment, local anesthesia and additives, and the physics of ultrasound and nerve stimulation. Discussion of nerve blocks is organized by neuroanatomy, use of nerve stimulation, and use of ultrasound. The book concludes with chapters on the organization of the acute pain service and staff, a review of multidisciplinary care, basics of pediatric regional anesthesia, first-aid acupuncture, and more.

Dr. Tighe collaborated on the book with coeditors Chester Buckenmaier III, MD, COL (ret) MC, USA, Michael Kent, MD, Jason C. Brookman, MD, Edward R. Mariano, MD, and David A. Edwards, MD, PhD.

Dr. Edwards was an Anesthesiology Resident in our department, including a Chief Resident in 2012. He is now Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Neurological Surgery and Chief of the Division of Pain Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Dr. Tighe is also a coeditor of Acute Pain Medicine published by Oxford University Press in 2019.
