Staff Assistant Marilyn Blackwell Retires After 34 years

Marilyn Blackwell

This month we said goodbye to a longtime member of the Anesthesiology family as Marilyn Blackwell, Staff Assistant in Financial Services, retired after 34 ½ years with our department.

Marilyn served our department through five chairs and numerous changes, always with a big smile, good cheer, and willingness to help.

“She wore many hats and took great pride in supporting the department,” said Robin Vaughan, Assistant Director for Finance. “She always wanted to make sure that she protected the department’s interests.”

Marilyn reviewed and processed all invoices, ordered supplies for the department, and managed property inventory. She also processed reimbursements for the certified registered nurse anesthetists/certified anesthesiologist assistants and sometimes faculty when they asked for her assistance. She handled all department accounts for Publix, Sam’s Club, Sprint, Culligan Water, and more. She got the mail and passed it out to everyone as well as received all packages and shipments.

She also maintained the department car, ensuring the regular services were completed and taking it for repairs when needed. She knew someone everywhere she went and never sat still for long. She was always on the go.

In 2019, Marilyn was one of the nominees for the Rebecca Lovely Outstanding Service Award.

We are immensely grateful for all of Marilyn’s many contributions to our department and wish her the best in her retirement!
