Rene Przkora, MD, PhD, and the Pain Medicine Fellowship have been awarded grants from the Abbott Medical Device Grant Committee and Medtronic to support education in pain medicine.
The funding will help our fellowship train the next generation of leaders in pain medicine; facilitate clinical, basic, and translational research activities; enhance our efforts to provide the highest quality of clinical care for our patients; and guide the future development of the discipline.
The funding is especially important this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is likely to accelerate changes in many aspects of medicine and medical training programs, said Dr. Przkora, Professor of Anesthesiology, Chief of the Pain Medicine Division, and Director of the Multidisciplinary Pain Medicine Fellowship.
Despite the many challenges associated with the pandemic, there are also opportunities such as telehealth and new ways to use technology to improve education. The grant funding will help our program pursue those opportunities and rise to the challenges.
The annual fellowship grant is one way that Medtronic provides ongoing support for the medical community and nonprofit public education programs. Medtronic is a biomedical engineering company that operates from more than 350 locations in more than 150 countries. Abbott, which operates in more than 160 countries, produces diagnostics, medical devices, and nutrition and branded generic pharmaceuticals.
