Twenty-five residents match with UF Anesthesiology

headshots of the six U-F med students coming into our programTwenty-five physicians have matched with our department to begin their Anesthesiology Residency with us in the upcoming academic year, including six graduates of the University of Florida College of Medicine.

For the categorical match, our department submitted a ranking list of around 150 senior medical students from across the country who had interviewed between October 2019 and January. Available intern positions were filled from the top 25 of that list.

This year’s clinical base year (intern) class includes two foreign medical graduates who are already residency-trained in a specialty and also includes a set of identical twins.

Five incoming clinical year 1 residents will also join us next year. They include a physician who is currently completing his pediatric medicine residency in Washington, DC, and who aspires to become a pediatric intensivist/anesthesiologist, as well as a physician who is completing service as a U.S. Naval flight surgeon and three other physicians who are completing surgical or transitional internships.

“We greatly appreciate the input of all our residents and faculty in resident applicant interviewing and selection — your help is invaluable in ‘selling’ and generating enthusiasm for choosing UF among our applicant pool,” said Timothy Martin, MD, Professor of Anesthesiology, Associate Chair for Education, and Chief of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Division.

More than 40,000 residents across the country learned where they would spend the next three to seven years during the National Resident Matching Program week.
