Department Hosts Second Annual Modell/Shah Lecture in Anesthesiology

The second annual Modell/Shah Lecture in Anesthesiology featured a discussion on anemia and transfusions presented by Aryeh Shander, MD, FCCM, FCCP, FASA on Nov. 14.

The lecture, titled “Anemia and Transfusions, Which is Worse?” drew a packed crowd and also gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions.

Dr. Shander is the Emeritus Chair, Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Pain Management and Hyperbaric Medicine at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, Medicine and Surgery at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.

Dr. Shander also serves as the Executive Medical Director of the Institute for Patient Blood Management and Bloodless Medicine and Surgery at Englewood Hospital and as the Clinical Research Director for TEAMHealth Anesthesia.

This lecture was part of the Jerome H. Modell, M.D. – Dinesh O. Shah, Ph.D. Annual Lecture in Anesthesiology series funded by Dr. Shah, Professor Emeritus, who attended the event.
