Faculty from the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Anesthesiology served as instructors for the 4th annual “Procedurepalooza,” a mass procedure lab organized by the College of Medicine Emergency Medicine Student Association. This year it was held on December 3, 2015. A little less than 200 1st- and 2nd- year medical students learned how to start IVs, suture, splint, intubate, maneuver a fiber optic scope, prep patients for surgery, perform transesophageal echocardiograms, tap the spinal sac, and perform ultrasound studies. For most of the students, this was their first exposure to any of these procedures and faculty had the opportunity to describe their use in medicine. Thank you to all the Drs. Timothy Martin, Young Peng, Basma Mohamed & Josh Sappenfield, and staffers Faith Hawkes and Tony DeStephens as well as the residents that gave their time to make this event successful.
