Dr. Gijo Alex, Cherrie Print, Elizabeth Feally, Maryam Aminzadeh, and Dr. Albert Robinson participated in the 2015 Medical Career Day at the F.O.C.U.S. Summer Program for 50 2nd – 12th grade students on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
The Fostering Opportunities & Cultivating Upstanding Students (F.O.C.U.S.) Summer Program and STEM Camp is an 5-week program for K-12 student in East Gainesville, FL that has math and reading curriculum for elementary students, science, technology, engineering, and math for middle school students (STEM), and Kaplan SAT Prep Course for high school students. The students also participate in mentoring, tutoring, Dave Ramsey’s financial peace course, global issues and sustainability project, character building, etiquette classes, social media awareness, organizational skills, and health lessons.
The F.O.C.U.S. program, hosted by Showers of Blessings Harvest Center Inc., is housed under an educational federally tax-exempt, section 501© organization called Southeast Educational Enterprise Kingdom (SEEK) Community Center Inc.
This Medical Professional Outreach Career Day was a fun and engaging event for the 2nd-12th grade students from Alachua County schools where they had the opportunity to learn more about an array of professional and graduate level careers. The purpose of the event was to expose the children early on to careers that they may not otherwise be exposed. The students participated in a variety of hands on projects, demonstrations, and activities while learning more about potential future medical and nursing careers.
