Congenital Heart Anesthesiology

The Congenital Heart Anesthesiology Division provides specialized anesthesia care to children and adults undergoing all forms of operative repair of congenital heart defects, from simple atrial septal defect repairs to complex single ventricle palliation.

In addition to over 250 annual scheduled congenital cardiac procedures involving cardiopulmonary bypass, our anesthesiologists provide care for congenital cardiac patients in multiple non-operative locations such as the cardiac catheterization laboratory, magnetic resonance imaging, and interventional radiology.

Our faculty also provide support and advice for non-cardiac surgery in this often challenging group of patients.

Residents & Fellows

A four-week elective in congenital cardiac anesthesiology is available in the CA-3 year that offers opportunities for residents to gain experience in managing complex cardiac lesions and exposure to some of the sickest neonates in the institution.

A similar but more advanced elective is offered to our fellowship trainees that provides educational opportunities present in very few other adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowships.
