Ambulatory Anesthesia
The Shands Florida Surgical Center (FSC) is an outpatient surgical facility located at the corner of SW 34th Street and Hull Road behind the UF Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Institute. The facility includes 10 preoperative areas, 8 operating room suites, 4 block areas, and 15 PACU bays. The patient population generally excludes patients less than 13 years of age and/or with an ASA classification of IV. This facility provides excellent care in a fully equipped setting for a broad range of outpatient surgical procedures by the following surgical specialties: Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastics, ENT, Oral Maxillofacial & Dental, Urology, Gynecology, Chronic Pain, and even Neurosurgery. Anesthesiology residents will have the opportunity to learn and work in a safe, fast-paced, and efficient operating room environment. Most of the anesthetic techniques performed here include monitored anesthesia care (MAC), Bier blocks, peripheral nerve blocks (including home-based perineural catheter placements), and general anesthesia using an LMA.
