Congratulations to all who participated in this year’s GAARRC Conference!

gaarrc1The Gulf Atlantic Anesthesia Resident’s Research Conference (GAARRC) took place on May 1-3, 2015, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the Intercontinental San Juan Resort.

GAARRC is an annual meeting that allows anesthesia residents and professionals the opportunity to take part in concurrent educational sessions as well as networking opportunities of interest to members of the anesthesia community. This professional meeting is devoted to presentations by resident physicians from anesthesiology programs based in the Southeastern region of the United States. After participating in various educational activities the learners become more confident in presenting scientific information, gaining information on the latest techniques in the field of anesthesiology, and networking with anesthesia professionals.

In 2015, UF residents and professionals won 4 of the 9 possible awards during the conference. Our residents stood out as the top presenters in every room and many of the attendees commended them on their professionalism and the well-practiced nature of their presentations. The following residents took home awards: Natalia Klosak won first place for literature review, Colton Arrant won second place for case reports, Ashley Screws won third place for case reports, and Shazia Mohammad won second place for original research.

Many thanks to Dr. Allison Haller for being the faculty sponsor of GAARRC and leading our team to such tremendous success. Thanks also go out to Drs. Allison Haller, Brit Smith, Sonia Mehta, Kiki Nin, Rene Przkora, and Kent Berg for their mentoring assistance. We would also like to thank everyone else who advised and worked with these residents on their projects, including Dr. Morey, for his continued support and efforts for GAARC.
